Young filmmakers up for regional award

Young filmmakers Eli Weiss, Dylan Starsinic and Dave Meddin are up for a regional award for a PSA they produced on cell phone cramming titled "Cramming 101."

The WAVE Awards ceremony will be held from 6-8 PM on Saturday October 20 as the concluding event to the Alliance for Community Western Region Conference in Sacramento. Attendees will have a panoramic view of beautiful Downtown Sacramento from the 16th floor "John Q Room" overlooking the State Capitol and the Sacramento River. The special ceremony will honor the memory of George Stoney, considered the father of community television and highlight samples of several award winning programs. New this year, category winners present will be encouraged to address the audience with a short statement. Join us for a wonderful celebration of community television's "Best" in 2012.

Let's hear it for the young media makers!

What's Your Story? DMA Needs Your Support

Say “media,” and what comes to mind? The word encompasses so much, and all of it at risk. News outlets are struggling, public broadcasting is under attack, a free and open Internet is imperiled, and community media centers much like Davis Media Access (DMA) are closing their doors across the country.

DMA’s doors are, thankfully, open and accessible to all, but—we need you to help us keep them open with your support of DMA’s annual fund raising campaign. Between now and June 30, our fund-raising goal is $25k in support of DMA's many programs and services.

$5k Challenge - Seeking matching donations by June 30

Davis Media Access is conducting its annual spring fund raising drive, which ends with our fiscal year on June 30. As you'll see in the progress bar to the right, we have a ways to go.

We have, however, received a $5k challenge donation that we will receive if we raise matching funds by June 30. If you have not donated, now would be an excellent time!

DCTV launches new, searchable website

This column published May 2, 2010 in The Davis Enterprise, http://davisenterprise.net. Hometown media are rare, and Davis has many. I think that says a lot about our community. I've written about community media and media policy for The Enterprise since Feb. 1996 and thank them for an enduring partnership and years of coverage.
