A remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Davis Varsity Theater.

With a theme of  "Equity in Education & STEM - Realizing the Dream!",  Davis Media Access was there to record on January 15, 2018.

Featuring Davis Mayor Robb Davis, UC Davis Ph.D. student Nkechinyere Chidi-Ogbolu, keynote speaker Mariama Gray, dance performances by Afrovibes, the Davis Freedom Singers, and children from the Parents of African-American Children group.

In 1965, a group from Davis marched with King. They have left a legacy of activism ever since. Lisa Thomas hosts: Terry Turner, Professor of Arts and Humanities, Rev. John Pamperin, Street Minister and Coordinator Davis Community Resource Project, Dick Holdstock, Environmental Consultant and Former City Councilman, and Rev. Timothy Malone, Campus Minister.

The celebration consists of the speech, presentations and music from vocalists and bands starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St. It is brought to the community by the city of Davis and the Davis Human Relations Commission.  The Rev. Tim Malone, the campus community outreach minister for UC Davis and director of the Broderick Christian Center in West Sacramento, was keynote speaker at the event.
