Submitted by Autumn Labbe-Renault on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 5:19pmYoung filmmakers Eli Weiss, Dylan Starsinic and Dave Meddin are up for a regional award for a PSA they produced on cell phone cramming titled "Cramming 101."
The WAVE Awards ceremony will be held from 6-8 PM on Saturday October 20 as the concluding event to the Alliance for Community Western Region Conference in Sacramento. Attendees will have a panoramic view of beautiful Downtown Sacramento from the 16th floor "John Q Room" overlooking the State Capitol and the Sacramento River. The special ceremony will honor the memory of George Stoney, considered the father of community television and highlight samples of several award winning programs. New this year, category winners present will be encouraged to address the audience with a short statement. Join us for a wonderful celebration of community television's "Best" in 2012.

Election coverage builds community

Seems just yesterday it was June and I was writing about election coverage. Though the importance of Nov. 6 is known nationally, I’m focused closer to home.
I’ve just finished fielding several comments regarding a post I made recently on a national listserve, wherein I talked about the connection between local election coverage and community development. By focusing on voter education programming, Davis Media Access (DMA) strives to illuminate community issues and provide access to non-partisan information.
Getting information out about campaigns and ballot issues shouldn't be fraught with barriers. However, air time is expensive and barring sensationialism, local politics are largely ignored by commercial broadcast media. DMA takes seriously our role in providing access to candidates, information for voters, and in documenting our community's history around local campaigns
