To mark the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago, DW-TV is broadcasting 24-hour live programming from Berlin's Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz. [English/German].
Two decades ago, a peaceful revolution triggered the collapse of Communist East Germany and the advent of a united Germany, as the Cold War drew to a close and Europe's division ended.
9 November is a special moment in German history, particularly for the people of Berlin whose memories of that momentous day are filled with joy and emotion. The city of Berlin had become a symbol of East-West German unification marked by national landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag building and the glittering Potsdamer Platz, once an East-West border wasteland. Nowadays, it has become difficult even to find traces of the Berlin Wall that once scarred the city center!
Germany is celebrating - come and join the party!
