Lin Weaver interviews Anthropologist Stefano Varese about his latest book "The Art of Memory." He is UC Davis Professor Emeritus in the Department of Native American Studies, Humanities, Art and Cultural Studies, and the Founding Director of the Indigenous Research Center of the Americas.
The book is an account of personal and cultural recollections, and of his journey from World War II Italy to Peru, his formative years as a cultural anthropologist, his critical work among the native populations of the Amazons and the Andean regions, and other important field research in Mexico.
Professor Varese is a lifelong activist working to defend human rights wherever he sees them abused.
