The GMO panel discussion about Proposition 37 and genetically engineered foods will be moderated by Desmond Jolly. Desmond has taught agricultural marketing and international agricultural development at UCD. He also co-developed an innovative general education course in agricultural biotechnology, ethics and public policy. He has served as director of the statewide UC Small Farm Program and Small Farm Center, whose mission is to enhance the viability of small- and moderate-scale agricultural producers through research and extension education in production systems, marketing and farm management.
Tom Fendley panelist is a native Chicagoan enjoying his 2nd stint in California. Tom has spent most of his career working in leadership positions for some of the nation's leading environmental, public health, and consumer protection organizations. Tom was enlisted as Political Director for Proposition 37, the high-profile California ballot measure that would label genetically engineered foods.
Dr. Kent Bradford panelist is the Director of the Seed Biotechnology Center, which works closely with the seed and plant breeding industry to conduct research that facilitates breeding, cultivar development, seed production and seed quality assessment and conservation.
Jim Eldon panelist a UCD graduate and a well-known local organic farmer/owner of Fiddlers Green Farm in the Capay Valley and co-owner of Monticello Seasonal Cuisine. He serves on the board of the Davis Farmers Market and in addition to the restaurant; his produce can be found the Davis Food Co-op, the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op, the Davis Farmers Market and the Marin Farmers Market.
