The 21st Annual City of Davis Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

The celebration consists of the speech, presentations and music from vocalists and bands starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St. It is brought to the community by the city of Davis and the Davis Human Relations Commission.  The Rev. Tim Malone, the campus community outreach minister for UC Davis and director of the Broderick Christian Center in West Sacramento, was keynote speaker at the event.

Robin Dewey with Team Davis Special Olympics, Clarence van Hook with Western Yolo Grange, and Ciara Main from Get on the Bus inspired the audience to think about how service strengthens the greater community. Attendees also heard vocal performances by James Williams, Clarence van Hook and Nathalie Minya.

The program ended with local musician Dick Holdstock and the Davis Freedom Singers performing several classic peace and freedom songs before leading attendees in a symbolic “Freedom March” through downtown Davis.
