Lin Weaver has been doing a bang-up job as Studio Host intern, and plans to continue as a producer and host of "In the Studio." We are ready to recruit additional help in the form of our next Studio Host Intern, for a position spanning at least Jan.-March 2014.
DMA has space upstairs to rent. We are willing to consider short-term rentals or shared working space for all or some of the suites. Here's the information: Davis Media Access, centrally located at 1623 Fifth St. in Davis, has approximately 850 sq. ft. of office space for lease. The second floor suite features easy access to two bathrooms, skylights, balcony access, fiber internet access and up to two dedicated parking spaces. For more information please contact Melrina A. Maggiora at (530) 757-3637 or melrina@cal.net.
I know the rain and winds are not everyone's cup of tea, but here in my namesake season, I'm in my element! The changing colors and gusty winds remind me that nothing stays the same, and all is possibility. Sure, it's a metaphor for life, but for community media as well. Equipment and technology changes, our services change (look for some new trainings this winter - Social Media For Beginners, Social Media for Parents, and Introduction to Final Cut X), and we are encouraged to envision changes to patterns and systems.
One thing that remains constant is our appreciation of this community. I hope many of you can join us for our open house on Dec. 2 (see below for details). It's a fun way for us to say thank you to the many people who make up DMA's community, and to celebrate our own independent outlets for media here in Yolo County.
Wishing you and yours a very healthy & happy holiday season!
In community,
Autumn Labbe-Renault
Come one, come all... the Board & Staff of Davis Media Access invite you to our Annual Holiday Open House, Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 6-9 p.m. at the media center 1623 Fifth Street, Ste A. As you may know, parking here can be challenging so please consider carpooling or biking.
The Chambers Street Theatre presents "Snow Bound," reading from Snow Bound by Mark Twain. Ruth Chambers reads as only she can, with animation and artwork by Alex Silva-Sadder. Currently airing on DCTV Channel 15 Comcast, Menu 99 on AT&T's U-verse, and online at https://dctv.davismedia.org/node/41211.
DMA's staff works hard...and so does its equipment. Each winter we take a little down time to close our doors to the public and deal with some facility maintenance. DMA will be closed at the following times:
Nov. 28 & 29 for Thanksgiving
Dec. 23-Jan. 1
KDRT programmers will be apprised of how to manage their shows during the holiday closures.
As you consider making year-end donations to charitable organizations, please also consider how DMA builds community and supports so many other organizations in Yolo County. From teaching media literacy and technical skills to kids who, by and large, aren’t getting that information in school; to a full range of voter education programming; to highlighting important community events, non-profits and local musicians; to providing free access to quality equipment; and so much more, DMA builds community. You in turn, help build and sustain DMA with your donation.
Here's one more way to donate to DMA: the Center for Car Donations processes donations of used vehicles (running or not) with a large portion of the proceeds benefiting KDRT. If you'd like more information, please visit here, and be sure to designate KDRT as the beneficiary.
Davis Community Television, dba Davis Media Access, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Your donation is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Please consult your tax adviser for details.
Cool Davis Festival: The City of Davis, officially the ‘Coolest California City,’ is celebrating on Saturday, October 12th, 8:00 am to 1:30 pm, in Central Park. There will be entertainment, family activities, interactive exhibits and lots of information about reducing your carbon footprint through choices about your home and garden, food, healthy lifestyle and how you get where you want to go. Live music; Free. More info at www.cooldavis.org. DMA is a proud organizational partner of Cool Davis.
