Roma Devanbu and The Paper Temple

In October of 2012, Roma Devanbu brought her art studio to the Pence Gallery and welcomed the community to come in and observe her creative process as she worked on installation of The Paper Temple.

Roma Devanbu writes, "My current work is about spiritual life. It is about devotional feelings, doubts, longings, and prayers. It is about the fragile and resilient belief structures, and rituals of thought, that we build up around our concept of the divine. And it is about the shape of the spaces we create for the divine to fill. This Paper Temple has been building in my head for a long time. I'm grateful to have this opportunity to search for it's physical form. Kind and enthusiastic supporters have said they can't wait to see it. I feel the same way. This will be a shared adventure."
